Avid icon dcommand9/9/2023 ![]() ![]() Shipping plus insurance in the continental US is approx $250 per unit/$750 total. If interested in separate modules, the Main Unit and XMON are $1850 cash ($1925 credit) and the 2 fader packs are $1400 cash each ($1450 credit). Price for the entire console is $3950 cash, or $4150 for credit card/Paypal. I will include the custom built stand for local pickup only - no shipping potential for the stand! All channel strip scribble strips are 100%. ![]() Has never caused an issue for me, as it’s down on fader 38-40 on the top encoder row. There are 2 channel strip encoder displays that are intermittent in their display. All knobs in the master EQ/DYN/MON section function 100%. Super fast, and I don’t even think about it anymore. These can’t be cleaned or repairs without replacing the entire control board, so I just use fader flip to access the functions needed. There are 2-5 knobs on channel strips out of the 101 total knobs that lose touch sensitivity. As a workaraound, I just jump into utilities mode, hit fader recal, and they are good to go again for a few days. It’s prob 8-12 out of the 40 that need some love. I cleaned everything a year ago and it was great. Not motor or band issues, just dirty caps or tracks. a few faders need to be cleaned as they have intermittent sensitivity. Overall it’s in great shape, but here are the negatives for full disclosure: Video of VEGAS MODE shows that everything is functioning properly. It’s about 7’ long and weighs about 165 lbs. This console makes for great workflow and speed, as well as a super professional looking centerpiece. I purchased the main unit from a big post house in NYC, and the 2 fader packs from a famous sound designer in LA… all well cared for. Internal and external talkback as well as listen back mic circuit. XMON monitoring gives you (2) 5.1 inputs, (3) Stereo inputs, (2) Stereo Cue sends, (2) sets of 5.1 or stereo speakers plus 1 set of minis. Just pulled it last week running great on the most current Pro Tools Ultimate 2019.12. These are old, but still used in huge studios and film mix rooms to this day. Mixing or tracking, this is a wonderful addition. If you’ve ever used one, you know how flexible and fast it is for any workflow you need. There doesn't seem to be much to gain from moving to Apple Silicon at all. This is a fantastic beast!! It’s been the centerpiece of my studio for about 5 years. I'm just going to bunker down on Intel and see how it all pans out. I imagine Avid will probably pull ICON support entirely from Pro Tools by the time Rosetta 2 support ends in MacOS. It is hard to imagine S4 or S6 sales are going to increase because of this.Īs someone who has been umming and arghing over Apple Silicon for the last 12 months, this announcement has definitely simplified things. Unless Avid have something new on the immediate horizon, this seems to be nothing more than a really blunt reminder of Avid's modus operandi when it comes to the risks of investing heavily in their hardware. The S3 and S3L have already been axed from sales. The S6 is already a year older than the D-Control was when it was canned. I can't really see how this helps Avid in the long run. ![]() I have been in building that have music studios full of 40 or 50 year old equipment and audio consoles, but one floor up they will roll out a totally functional $80,000 desk after 10 years and bring in a new one that does basically exactly the same thing. It is a real epidemic through the industry at enterprise levels. ![]() To push functional, serviceable and highly fit-for-purpose equipment out the door for no other reason than 'just because' really is nothing but corporate greed. Personally, I have developed very little tolerance for the whole artificial obsolescence thing. I do urge AVID to consider updating there strategy and transfer the Command/icon interface into the new Native system. AVID will lose a big part of there clients who still use a Command/ICON control surface. What makes it even worse is that WINDOWS computers will still be able to use the Control surface (until AVID breaks that connection offcourse) and recieve updates.ĭo I have to switch to Windows again ? MAC has brought me so much joy -)Īlthough I understand the switch to Silicon Native. This means I have to invest heavily into a new console if I want to change my MacPro into a new M(x)-silicon enabled MAC computer ! I'm sorry but don't have that 60K investment lay-ing around these days to make a switch to S4 or even S6 :-( Not sure when AVID will completely change to Native (and ditch Mac-Intel completely) but one can only assume this is a logical way they will go for future development (pretty sure they will not continue to develop 3 different OS's (Win- MACOS and Silicon Mac)) I am a bit disappointed the ICON Control surfaces wont be able to connect to an silicon-Native version of ProTools Ultimate. ![]()
